XLRI Jamshedpur offers two flagship MBA programs, PGDM in Business Management (BM) and PGDM in Human Resource Management (HRM). The programs are designed to provide strong groundwork in management principles, leadership and ethical decision-making.

During the first year, both BM and HRM students learn the same basic courses. These are financial accounting, marketing management, managerial economics, organisational behaviour, operations management, human resource management, business statistics and business communication. These courses help students appreciate how businesses run in most ways.

In addition to theoretical education, the program focuses on applied learning through case studies, group projects and simulations. The students are encouraged to use their learning in actual business scenarios.

The learning process comprises workshops, seminars and guest talks delivered by industry icons. The course also involves teaching of soft skills, leadership and communication.

As a whole, the XLRI syllabus is a blend of academic depth and practical learning to make the students competent, ethical and confident corporate managers.

First-Year PGDM (BM) Curriculum

The first-year curriculum of XLRI's PGDM (Business Management) programme emphasises core management topics to ensure a strong foundation in the basics of business. Financial Accounting, Marketing Management, Managerial Economics, Organisational Behaviour, Operations Management, Business Statistics and Human Resource Management are some of the key courses. Business Law, Strategic Management, Business Ethics and Management Communication are also part of the curriculum. These topics are covered in lectures, case studies, group projects and presentations to prepare students for real-world business challenges. The first year concludes with an obligatory summer internship that provides industry exposure.

Second-Year PGDM (BM) Curriculum for Terms 4, 5 and 6

Second-year PGDM (Business Management) students in XLRI may specialise in areas such as finance, marketing, operations, strategy, business analytics or entrepreneurship by choosing from a set of electives. The focus is on creating domain expertise and applying what they learn to actual business scenarios.  Students are able to personalise their course content according to their professional goals and interests. Advanced case studies, industry projects and interactive discussions with business experts are also included in the second-year curriculum to help students learn more practically and strategically.

For the second-year PGDM (HRM) syllabus, candidates should visit XLRI’s official website. In the second year of XLRI's PGDM (HRM) program, students study specialised HR topics such as strategic human resource management, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation and benefits and organisational development. They can also take electives in related fields such as HR analytics, labour law and international HRM.  The curriculum incorporates theory and practice through case studies, simulations and industry projects.
