JIPMAT

India administers a national admissions exam known as the Joint Integrated Program in Management Admission Test (JIPMAT). It is designed primarily for students interested in the 5-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) offered by IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. The course enables students to begin studying management immediately after completing Class 12, with a blend of a Bachelor's degree along with a Master's in Management (MBA). The primary goal of JIPMAT is to choose young and meritorious students and prepare them for management at an early stage. The test is organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which provides a fair and consistent testing procedure throughout the country.

JIPMAT is open to all streams of students (Science, Commerce and Humanities) who have passed or are appearing for their Class 12 exams. To qualify, candidates must have passed Class 10 and 12 with a minimum of 60% (55% in case of SC/ST/PWD). There is no maximum age for taking the test. The test is an online computer-based test that is typically administered once a year.

There are 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) organised into three sections: numeric ability, data interpretation, logical reasoning and verbal abilities (English). Each section has equal weightage and the test is of 150 minutes (2.5 hours).  Each correct answer gets four marks and each incorrect answer results in a loss of one mark.

The Quantitative Aptitude section examines simple mathematical skills like arithmetic, algebra, geometry and measurement. The Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning part consists of questions on tables, graphs, puzzles and logical reasoning. The Verbal Ability part checks the candidate's grasp of English grammar, vocabulary, reading and sentence correction. The questions are moderately tough and can be cracked by hard work through practice and knowledge of Class 10-level concepts. A clear-cut strategy and a good time management are required to achieve success in JIPMAT.

JIPMAT scores are utilised by IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya for shortlisting candidates for their IPM programs. The institutes utilise a choice criterion that considers the JIPMAT score, 10th and 12th class performance and other factors such as gender diversity.

Highlights of the JIPMAT Exam

The examination is conducted for 150 minutes (two hours and thirty minutes). JIPMAT is meant for students who want to start their management education straight after Class 12. It evaluates candidates' preparation and aptitude for a demanding management course. The examination is available to students from all streams of study. The highlights of the JIPMAT examination are:
