The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) offers an all-encompassing, industry-relevant curriculum under its flagship, speciality postgraduate and executive education programs. The Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management has a two-year curriculum that includes both core and elective courses. The first year is devoted to basic management subjects like financial accounting, marketing management, managerial economics, operations, business communication, organisational behaviour and business ethics. It lays down a strong base for all the functional areas of management.

In the second year, candidates may choose electives that are tailored to their professional goals and aspirations. Public policy, information systems, strategy, marketing, operations, finance and human resources are electives. PGP in Finance (PGP-Fin), PGP in Liberal Studies & Management (PGP-LSM) and PGP in Business Leadership (PGP-BL) each have their own curriculum. These integrate core management concepts with subject-specific components like financial modelling, sustainability, leadership psychology and digital transformation.

The curricula of the institute are updated from time to time based on international trends, new technology and the requirements of the industry. PGP First-Year Syllabus 

PGP is a six-term, two-year program. The courses in the first year (terms I–III) are aimed at building the foundations of the PGP. Consequently, all students in their first year need to complete all of their courses successfully. These courses aim to impart core conceptual knowledge and analytical tools across a number of disciplines and functional areas of management. IIM Kozhikode PGP – Finance Syllabus

The PGP-Finance course at IIM Kozhikode is a two-year full-time master's degree that blends core management disciplines with comprehensive financial education. The initial year, which consists of six trimesters is structured to create a strong foundation through core courses in finance, economics, accounting, marketing, operations and communication.  These core modules equip the students with the techniques and concepts required for understanding financial decision-making and economic frameworks in a business context.

IIM Kozhikode PGP – Liberal Studies & Management (LSM) Syllabus

IIM Kozhikode offers the PGP in Liberal Studies and Management (PGP-LSM) with a unique interdisciplinary program that combines core management education with liberal arts perspectives. In the first year, students are exposed to core management courses in marketing, finance, operations and strategy and liberal studies streams like philosophy, sociology, psychology and political science. This blend is designed to encourage critical thinking, ethical decision-making and a greater understanding of human behaviour and social dynamics in a business environment. 

In the second year, students may choose from a range of electives in the areas of public policy, behavioural economics, sustainability, communications and leadership. The program also has experiential learning through projects, workshops and immersion modules that challenge students to look at real-world problems from different angles. In the second year of IIM Kozhikode's PGP-LSM program, students select electives from three clusters: Health, Hospitality and Tourism; Social Enterprises and NGOs; and Communication, Films and Entertainment. Consumer Behaviour, Public Health Management, Sustainability, Film & Media Studies and Responsible Leadership are examples of key electives. IIM Kozhikode PGP – Business Leadership (BL) Syllabus

The Post Graduate Program in Business Leadership (PGP-BL) at IIM Kozhikode features a challenging curriculum with a focus on core courses, which are designed to develop strategic thinking, leadership abilities and cross-functional skills. The core courses covering two or more terms cover basic areas like financial accounting, marketing management, managerial economics, operations management, corporate finance and organisational behaviour. Besides, the program also focuses on leadership development, change management, corporate communication and strategic thinking. Special modules like Responsible Leadership, Innovation and Design Thinking and Corporate Ethics train participants to be effective and ethical leaders in rapid, international business settings.

The PGP-BL recognises that leaders have to work as general managers and not as specialists in a domain. However, organisations desire future leaders to be capable of venturing into specific domains with some degree of familiarity, which is typically enabled by structured knowledge inputs and real-world domain experience. Though leadership ability is apparent irrespective of domain, native comfort with a domain tends to differ from person to person. Consequently, while every student is equally exposed to fundamental courses and thematic areas, the PGP-BL has scope for a range of special courses students can opt for starting with the third term of the program. Certain of these themes are typically related to particular functional areas; however, there could be cross-functional courses and other novel thematic courses by specialists/practitioners.

IIM Kozhikode BMS Syllabus

Foundation Courses: These will enable students to gain a proper grasp of basic skills and knowledge in the fields that are essential for gaining further expertise in management. Economics, quantitative approaches, English, accounting, computer science, psychology, sociology and law will be some of the foundation subjects taught.

Core Courses: These are pertaining to the core field of study, which is management studies. Students will have to do the teaching in this field (20-24 courses) in a range of fields including finance, accounting, organisational behaviour, marketing management, human resource management, strategy, operations management, supply chain management etc. The coverage amount will be in excess of the normal curriculum through the first year of a 2 year MBA program and the students will be qualified to accept most entry level business/management jobs. 

Elective Courses: The elective courses map to specialisation areas that map to the minor areas selected by the students. A minimum of one minor area has to be chosen by each student. Elective courses will be offered in all fields of the minor and will be selected based on student interest. The institute will publish a list of courses each semester of the third and fourth years and students will place bids on the courses in which they are interested.
