About the Batch profile

A batch profile is a thorough analysis of the academic professional and demographic composition of students enrolled in a given academic program in a particular year. It is used most frequently in MBA and postgraduate programs.

It provides insight into student diversity and quality by emphasising crucial aspects such as educational backgrounds, work experience, gender mix, age range, geographical dispersion and entrance exam scores. For instance it might say how many students are from the fields of engineering, business or arts; how many are experienced workers before enrolling and how many years on average they have worked. It might then add the percentage of female students, states or nations represented and prior industries worked in. The batch profile is an excellent instrument for prospective students to gauge the peer culture, recruiters to test the talent pool and institutions to illustrate the diversity and depth of their student population.

Important components in batch profiles

• Academic background: Number of undergraduate degrees (e.g. Engineering, Commerce, Arts, Science)

• Work Experience: Proportion of experienced students and freshers, average years of work experience and industry/sector diversity (e.g., IT, finance, consulting).

• Gender Diversity: Male to Female Ratio in the Batch

• Age range: A minimum, maximum and mean age of students.

• Geographical diversity: It involves the presence of more than one state, region or country.

• Professional backgrounds: It includes analyst, developer, consultant and manager before entering the program.

• Program-specific information: It includes intake figures for different specialisations or cohorts, like PGP, PGP-Finance and PGP-LSM.

• For applicants: Sets expectations and makes it easier for applicants to evaluate themselves against generic profiles.

IIM Kozhikode Batch Profile (2022-2024) for PGP, PGP-LSM and PGP-Finance programs

IIM Kozhikode's batch profile is a shining example of outstanding diversity and quality in its flagship PGP, PGP-Finance and PGP-Liberal Studies and Management courses. The average work experience of the batch is 27 months and the excellent 47% female to male ratio of the batch clearly shows its great gender diversity. 

The mix of the class in terms of academics comprises 55% engineers, 27% commerce, 11% arts, 4% science and 3% others. There are 73 professionally qualified students like CA, CFA or FRM, 19 from top schools like SRCC and LSR and 119 from high ranked institutes like IITs, NITs and BITS with NIRF Top 30 institutions contributing 39% of the batch.

According to the distribution of work experience, the batch is highly balanced. 23% are the fresher ones, 10% possess experience between 1-11 months, 25% possess experience between 12-23 months, 27% have 24-35 months and 15% have experience beyond 35 months. This provides a mix of fresh perspectives and experienced industry hands. The PGP BL 06 batch profile (2025-26) of IIM Kozhikode reflects a diversified batch. The batch consists of 63 students, with an average age of 28 and an impressive average work experience of 5.7 years. 

The gender of the batch is also diversified, consisting of 25% female and 75% male students. Academically 85% of the participants are from engineering, 10% from business, 3% from science and 2% from other fields. Interestingly, 24% of the batch are from well known institutes like IITs, NITs, BITS or IIITs while 5% have qualifications like CA, CS or ACCA and 3% are from the military.

Work experience breakup indicates extensive diversification of professional exposure, with 19% having 36-48 months, 25% having 49-60 months, 22% having 61-72 months, 16% having 73-84 months and 18% with over 85 months of professional experience. The industry profiles are diverse as well, with 30% from services, 24% from IT/ITES, 16% from BFSI and consultancy, 14% from the automobile industry, 10% from manufacturing and 6% from the government or public sector organisation.
