The Indian Institute of Management (IIM Mumbai) in collaboration with the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, has given a green signal to a short program named “ Auditing Lens: Oil & Gas Sector “. Briefing about the program, it is a week-long capacity-building program primarily focused on auditing inventory, logistics and supply chain management in the oil and gas sector. 

The main objective of the program is to provide students with the proper, detailed knowledge in auditing logistics and supply chain systems, specifically within the oil and gas sector of India, which is the most commercial and important sector. This program has attracted more than 30 government auditors across the nation. The program will also incorporate seminars and workshops presented by industry experts and academic professionals. 

CAG K Sanjay Murthy, the designer of the program, has explained that the main objective of the program is to solve the emerging problems in supply chain logistics and governance specifically in the context of international trade. 

Prof. Manoj Tiwari, director at IIM Mumbai, has given the academic direction to make sure that the curriculum is aligned with the national priorities and adheres to the protocols of supply chain systems. 

Prof. Vivekanand B. Khanapuri, dean of SRIC, has a huge role in shaping the curriculum, ensuring a challenging and relevant academic platform. Shri Vijay Kothari, who is the principal director of Audit (Shipping), has played an important role in organising the program to ensure that the program has proper industry-specific relevance. 

Day 1 Sessions: Define the Tone for the Programme

Esteemed dignitaries and expert faculty participated in the inauguration ceremony. Prof. Tiwari presented a lecture on the first day of the session. The lecture was detailed on the topic of oil and gas value chain, focusing on logistics difficulties and key audit touchpoints. 

This was followed further with a lecture from Deepak Shetty, who is a retired IRS officer and former Director General of Shipping. In the lecture, Deepak Shetty explained the global insights into maritime trade regulations, port logistics and audit considerations in international shipping. 

At the end of the first day of the session, Ruma Kishor, who is a supply chain expert, concluded with her lecture on risk management and operational vulnerabilities in the oil and gas supply chain.
