Insead XR is partnered with UPES to use immersive XR simulations to transform MBA education
The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) has partnered with INSEAD XR to introduce an immersive Extended Reality (XR) Simulation session into its MBA curriculum.
UPES (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies) has become the first most prestigious institution in India to introduce XR as part of its business course to improve the quality of education delivered to the students. By making use of the multisensory virtual environment, this new collaboration is focused on providing students with an opportunity to gain experience while learning. This experiential learning space is far ahead of traditional classroom environments and will allow the students to face real-world business challenges.
Two advanced XR simulations were showcased during the pilot session: Mission to Mars, which is designed to enhance the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of the students. The second one is the Avocado case, which will focus on strategic decision-making.
Students in the session tried to immerse themselves in high-impact situations by wearing virtual reality (VR) headsets. These simulations offer an unparalleled opportunity to experience complex business situations, from negotiating on warm Zanzibar beaches to making life-or-death decisions within a Mars mission's command center. Students found the learning process engaging and enjoyable and also beneficial at the sme time. Students found it beneficial due to the dynamic and interactive setting which accurately portrayed real company dynamics.
Experiential Learning
Students reacted positively to the pilot session. Students found the pilot session very engaging and advanced, as they were looking forward to the ways immersive technologies which further help in enhancing their learning experience. More than mere theoretical ideas were offered by these INSEAD XR-facilitated XR simulations, which allowed students to step into complex circumstances, make decisions and experience the consequences in an engaging yet secure environment.
UPES has taken a bold initiative in reshaping the traditional way of business learning by including XR in the curriculum. This provides students with a hands-on method that prepares them for the challenges of the fast-evolving contemporary business environment.
Integration with the curriculum of the MBA in the FutureUPES intends to incorporate XR simulations in the MBA program completely from the next semester, following the success of the pilot session. The incorporation is part of UPES's bigger objective to deliver advanced experiential learning that equips students with the tools they require to succeed in the rapidly competitive and digitalised global business landscape.
