On the other hand, the executive PhD program is designed for working professionals from various industries and sectors. The program will start in October 2025. Online MBA is another program that IIM Calcutta will launch for working professionals in order to create business leaders for the future. 

IIM Calcutta's academic programs dean said India's large population and rapidly growing infrastructure projects need competent managers who are adequately equipped with the technical as well as the strategic aspects of infrastructure development. To meet this need, a new program has been drawn up by IIM-C, which will integrate basic management principles with expertise in disciplines such as project financing, artificial intelligence in infrastructure, urban planning and design thinking. The prime concern is to develop leaders who are capable of triggering huge, sustainable changes and enhancements in India's infrastructure sector.

IIM Calcutta's doctoral program director Professor Saikat Maitra described how the new Executive PhD program would leverage the institution's rich research and teaching heritage. As India's oldest school of management, IIM Calcutta wants to provide an alternative route to research for senior professionals through this course.

The goal of the program is to develop scholars who can work in their respective industries and can impart knowledge as well. Also, it will open new career opportunities in the fields of consulting, teaching, management research and analytics.
